ZACK AND ADDIE is an un-sensationalized exploration of root causes of the notorious Zack Bowen / Addie Hall murder-suicide. Dismemberment, beheading, and the cooking of human remains do grab peoples’ attention, but this lurid-sounding subject matter gives way to matters of crucial substance, including the impact of Iraq and Kosovo military experience; post Hurricane Katrina PTSD; closeted homosexuality in the military; drug / alcohol abuse; the disappearing safety net reflected by an absence of psychiatric services in crisis; sexual abuse of children; and the role and responsibility of the media during tragedy and disaster. ZACK AND ADDIE raises as many questions as it answers.
