When Harlem Saved A King (United States, 1 hr 30 min)
Directed by: Al Cohen
"When Harlem Saved A King (WHSAK)" is a 90 minute documentary that will tell a story not known by many Americans. This story will focus on the events leading up to and following the September 20, 1928 stabbing of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was stabbed in the chest with a letter opener by an African American woman whose name was Izola Ware Curry.
Who is Izola Curry and what happened to her after the assassination attempt? Why would a woman or any African American during that time try to kill Dr. King? Was there a conspiracy to kill Dr. King? What was really happening in the country, and in Harlem both politically and socially in 1958? What type of effect did the stabbing have on the Civil Rights Movement?
These are just some of the questions that we seek to answer during this 90 minute documentary.
