Still Lifes (United States | 2015, 44 min)

Directed by: Jac Rubenstein

Still Lifes is an experimental film that explores memories of people in places that might otherwise go unnoticed. Filmed on location in New York, Berlin, Madrid and Vienna, director Jac Rubenstein has constructed a montage of completely static images of commonplace spaces against a contrapuntal sound montage to explore the memories that have been left behind, as if they were remembered in their absence by the very spaces where everyday events have occurred: A concert hall in Vienna muses on the chatter of patrons after a Beethoven symphony, a NY comedy club resounds with the ghostly voices of Lenny Bruce, Woody Allen and other classic comedians of the past, a Berlin household is haunted by the the vocal practicing of a mother and voices of her children now long gone.
