De Klok (France, 6 min)

Directed by: Guilhem Machenaud

Cast: Pierre Tertacap, Thomas Tertacap

In the narrow bathroom of his barge that serves as his apartment, Pierre seems adrift, overwhelmed by his memories. He bitterly recalls the remarkable moments he lived with his twin brother; those who have brought them together and those who have separated them. Little by little, we can see why Pierre seems so lost to his own reflection, marked by the spectre of his distant double.

Interview:

Since 2007, Guilhem Machenaud has been developing a singular approach by producing short and innovative formats. He likes to cross looks and expressions, giving to see an emotion of the moment, natural and spontaneous. Very attached to the authenticity, he likes to work in natural lights on intimate and realistic staging, almost documentary. Today, he produces and realizes DE KLOK in the same spirit of innovation. Between short film and documentary, this new film presents the best way the fusion of genres is dear to him.

Q - CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING ACCEPTED TO NYC INDIE FILM FESTIVAL. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE VIDEO AND THE PROCESS OF FILMING IT?
This hybrid project comes from a double wish: to make a clip for a singer we have loved for years: "NEESKENS" and propose a short "silent" film rich of meaning and emotions. Based on the feelings of listening to this song, reinforced by his melancholic lyrics, we decided to write about an unconditional love, namely that of Brotherly Love. Being a completely autonomous creative production house, we left as a very small team in the singer's native village, shot this clip with our equipment, almost in 3 days closed session.

Q TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND. WHAT WAS YOUR FILM EDUCATION / WHERE DID YOU STUDY? HOW IS IT TO BE AN INDIE FILMMAKER IN FRANCE?
I created CAPSUS 8 years ago, to discover new territories, moving a step away from extreme sports... If we go back further, we will find in my career a lot of passion, and no school. I had the chance to arrive at the time of birth of the social networks which allowed the mutation of my Leisure activity into Passion. Today we continue to produce projects that we wish to be aesthetic and emotional, and we are rather satisfied with the evolution CAPSUS is experiencing.

Q - WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I have the chance to work alongside a team with whom we share the same artistic and creative vision, it's very stimulating! In a more personal way, I draw my achievements from my emotions... I have no cinematographic culture, I just let my feelings guide me. I like the sincerity of the subject and the strength of the message.

Q - HOW IMPORTANT ARE FILM FESTIVALS? DO YOU THINK THEY HELP SUPPORTING FILMMAKERS?
It is a first for us to participate in this kind of festival. We wanted to wait until we had something universal to tell. I think this is a great opportunity to discuss each other's artistic visions, meet other passionate and specially to meet those for whom we do this job: the spectators! It's a great chance for once to be both on the same side of the screen!

Q - DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE ON HOW TO SUCCEED?
I don't know if I can be said to have succeeded, but in any case, I am a pure product of what Passion can create: I come from a lost village at the bottom of a Pyrenean mountain (in the south of France), I knew nobody and even less people knew me! I did what I liked most, I learned to express my emotions in pixels, I worked a lot for that, I persevered, never ceasing to question my creations.... If you are honest with the interpretation of your art, you will end up meeting people who will be sensitive to it ... To summarize: to succeed you need Passion and a lot of Work!

Q - WHY SHOULD PEOPLE SEE YOUR FILM? (ARE YOU COMING TO NYC?)
1- It only lasts 5min, and I promise to make you travel visually and emotionally as much as a feature film.
2- Just to discover the extraordinary performance of our 2 actors, which is their first experience in front of a camera.
3- There is Action and Love!
4- The soundtrack is just sublime!
5- And... Why not!
