A New York couple faces their own deadline to either "make it" or give up their dreams.

Interview with director Kris Lefcoe, conducted by Jeff Ayars, TV Pilots Curator.

Q: What’s your background & how did you get started?

I started out making music videos and short films. Music videos are a great way to experiment with different filmmaking techniques, especially if you can convince the band they don’t need to be in their own video. Although the one I made for electro queen Peaches - “Boys Wanna Be Her” - is all performance, a crazy rawk bloodbath, and it's one of my faves.

Q: What inspires you to create?

Lately I’m inspired by finding the sweet spot where misery turns into comedy. NYC helps a lot with that. Plenty of misery to work with.

Q: What advice do you have for indie creators on a budget?
1. Follow the Good / Fast / Cheap rule— you have to pick two, you can’t have all three.
2. When you’re underpaying people, feed them well.
3. Always get production insurance.

Q: What makes your project special?

What’s special about Giving Up is, it’s the opposite of every other show. Every show’s about trying to achieve your dreams. This show is about giving up your dreams. Which turns out to be a lot harder, and funnier. Also, David Wain executive produced it. So that’s pretty special.

Giving Up is a 2018 Official Selection of the 9th Annual NYC Independent Film Festival.
